Pooling of the Tank Terminals in Oiltanking
Until recently each tank terminal has been a separate legal entity, for example, the Karlsruhe Tanklager GmbH & Co, the Tanklager GmbH & Co KG in Frankfurt etc. This is all about to change. The tank terminals belonging to Mabanaft Nord and managed by Mr. Weitler are combined into Oiltanking GmbH. The combination is hoped to accelerate processing and improve the flow of information. It will also allow the company to present a common front to the customers. In Germany and in neighbouring countries, Oiltanking's own tank terminals have a capacity of approx. 1 million cubic metres, to which leased tank space of approx. 700,000 cbm can be added. The aim is to diversify by expanding storage capacity and to lease about half the capacity to third parties.

New Tank Terminal Under Construction in India.
Construction began on the India, Mumbai tank terminal recently. The land under construction has been leased by Marquard & Bahls since 1965. A capacity of 480,000 cbm is planned. The geographically convenient location on the Amsterdam-Rhine-Canal makes it possible to reach the smaller inland tank terminals situated along the Rhine, allowing Oiltanking GmbH's customers to supply their partners in Germany and Switzerland from the new tank terminal in Mumbai.

New LPG Terminal Built
The Karlsruhe tanks are being constructed of an expensive, higher-grade steel to be able to withstand the pressure of expanding gases. As a result, these tanks cost ten times the price of tanks for other products. In addition, the Karlsruhe tanks are embedded in sand, to both cool and protect them.

Change in Capital and Management Structure
An unpopular name is ditched and the group Mabanaft/Oiltanking returns to its roots: 40 years earlier, Theodor Weisser had started his oil business in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg as "Marquard & Bahls.” For ten years now, the business has traded under the name of Stumm GmbH. According to the management, its return to the original name signifies the completion of the group's reorganization.

Opening of the New Company Headquarters
As of Jan 04, 2009, all Hamburg employees work under a shared roof. This day has been long in the making: First the former state employment agency’s building was purchased in 1987, then building plans had to be drawn up and approved before the actual building could finally begin. In February 1989, the extension and conversion work began. Except for the exterior walls, some sections of the glass façade, and the ceilings, the building was completely demolished before the builders could make the necessary changes and add a new top floor. And it didn't stop there: a complete technological overhaul took place, in which kilometers of electrical, telephone and computing cable were laid, and heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems were installed. All this was before the interior construction could get underway: dividing walls were put up, ceilings lowered and windows and doors were put in place. Fifteen months later, the offices are now ready for move-in. Besides shortening communications paths, the shared building is expected to strengthen the feeling of belonging to one group.

Construction of the New Oiltanking
The contractual conditions for the construction of Oiltanking Malta’s new tank terminal in Marsaxlokk have been fulfilled. The Malta Freeport Corporation owns a 30% stake in the project. The decision to go ahead with the project has also been made, so construction can likely begin in December.
